Load Balanced

in March 2009

You might have noticed a few hic ups a few days ago here on Streetfiles. Sorry for the inconveniences. We have successfully installed a load balancing module. That enabled us to nearly double the Streetfiles CPU power. We hope that this lasts a bit at least.

Happy Streetfiles surfing!

You might noticed the bad performance of the streetfiles during the last weeks, specially in the evening hours (CET). I started an article with the same words about 4 months ago. Let me explain again ...

This month we expect about 5 million page views and over 1 terrabyte traffic.
There are much more loves, more bookmarks, more comments, more visitors, more uploads, more downloads, more new members, more members online, more more ... That is much! That's too much for one single webserver. So we need more computing power to deliver the pages faster.

By the end of this month our great webhoster will add a new engine and hopefully all performance issues will fixed for a while. We don't ask for donations! The advertisements on the right side help us to pay our bills. We know these ads are annoying sometimes, but they help us and you!

UPDATE:
Today we had about 20 minutes downtime. The new server arrived!
There will be short dropouts during the next week, because of maintenance and configuration jobs.:

Lets be Streetfiles Friends

We secretly released a new mini feature: You are now able to show the world who are your favorite top ten Streetfiles friends. You can define who is in that friends list on the right on your public Streetfiles member profile page. All you need is a member account and more then 10 friends here.

New Streetfiles Stickers printed by Stickma The all new Streetfiles Stickers are printed by Stickma.de

2009-03-20: It was reported that a shop (namely: Downstairs) sold our stickers. That 's not the purpose, they are ment to be free. Cruel world this is.

Q:How heavy are 100.000 Streetfiles stickers?
A:Heavy!

We just recieved the new edition of Streetfiles Sickers. We not only have to be thankful for the special delivery, we also like to thank the printing sponsor a lot: Stickma.de. Stickma is a print company based in Dresden specialized on printing stickers. They have an online store where you can order your selfdesigned stickers. They also know, love and support our culture. They organized the Stickeraward. Now they are preparing a sticker magazine called Klebstoff.

A little while ago we asked a couple of graffiti supply store owners if they want to be present at our little community here. They would have the opportunity to present their business to a very special audience and support the development of Streetfiles by paying a little fee. Streetfiles Stores are instances of worldwide street art & graffiti stores. A Streetfiles Store might sell: markers, cans, caps, books, DVDs, streetwear, sneakers or vinyls.

New Blog Engine

in March 2009

Nothing fancy. We switched from WordPress to a small self developed system. It's just a very basic system but this way we can assure that the design stays exactly the same and comments are made by Streetfiles members.
