Something went wrong! You need to upgrade your Flash Player
You were busy painting and uploading: the 50.000th photo got uploaded the last days. So we would like to say thank you with a new feature exclusively on Streetfiles:
The all new Flash full screen Slideshow by Nonverbla™
Photos on Streetfiles come to live through context: the members, the comments, the loves, the hates and the bookmarks. That's why it is so important to show all the connections on a photo detail page. Communication is really happening. The downside of this is that the photos only fill out about 50% of the screen. Well but sometimes you just want to enjoy a photo in all its beauty. Logged in as a member you can always view a high-resolution version of the photo by clicking on the "view larger" button on a detail page. But that is somehow a dead end, there is probably only one link and that goes back. And it always takes two clicks to get there from a list. The large view is also limited by the browser window.
So we asked our friend the genius interface designer and designer Rasso to develop a tool for us that shows photos in real full screen directly linked from a list.
And so he did this beautiful Slideshow for us. You need to be logged in as a member and have the flash plug-in (minimum version 9) installed. You can start from all photo lists. Just click on the new "Open slideshow" button on the top right of the list.
The Slideshow features a bit experimental but also intuitive controls. You can adjust the auto-play time by dragging the slider. You can pause/play. You can skip in both directions. And you can exit the slideshow to the detail view of the currently shown photo. See the screen cast for a demo. If you have Flash Player 10 or newer installed you can also control the slideshow with your keyboard: use the cursor keys for next, previous pic, and the spacebar to toggle autoplay on or off.
The Slideshow is for Streetfiles members only, not only to make membership more attractive but also save some bandwidth, loading so many high-resolution pics costs money.
Rasso will publish an open source version of that slideshow on his website soon. So if you are geekish enough you can use the same player on your projects as well. The Slideshow gets the data from a special multimedia RSS feed which is now also included in all lists. Again if you are nerdish enough you can also grab that RSS feeds. We would love to see the integration on other websites.
One more thing: We are working on a "embedded" version of the slideshow. This will be a really easy way to show any Streetfiles-photos on any other website. For instance in your blog, on your myspace site or on facebook. We are planning the release as a thank you for the for the 2.500th Streetfiles member. To make this happen a bit sooner you can support us by inviting some friends. Log in to your member account click on your icon, click on "friends", click on "Invite new members", or click on this link: http://streetfiles.org/my/friends/invite/
We have many many members from our home town Berlin, from Germany all over and also a lot of Polish and Czech members. We are looking forward to get more members from all over the world, especially from the US and western Europe. So if you know someone over there drop him/her a line to join us. The more photos, the more competition, the more fun.
