The Secret Streetfiles

Back in the days when i was a teenager writers used to be a bit paranoid about there photos. Usually blackbooks got stored by a friend of a friend of a friend or even burried in a secret place like a treasure box. You could be lucky to have the chance to see a blackbook of one of your crew members.

Well, nowadays things changed a bit. Youngsters present videos of their lastest subway actions on mobile phones. And of course it's very popular to present graffiti bombings to everyone in a cloud called the internet.

Beside common photo sharing communities like Flickr and Fotolog: Streetfiles is a dedicated platform for this special interest kind of art (or vandalism, however you want to call it).

We run Streetfiles and we enjoy each uploaded photo. But we are wondering why some people here do not care about privacy?

The world wide web is somehow virtual but is it anonymous? HELL NO!

Who told you can not get busted in real life for posting stuff in the cyberspace? NOT US! We wrote about that topic, wrote about it again, and talked about it (in german).

You might be identified personally by:

  • the IP you are using to access the internet,
  • by the e-mail address you are using for your Streetfiles member account,
  • by showing you or your friends on photos you are uploading here (wearing masks & blurring faces is not clever enough)
  • and by the comments you are posting here (e.g."the police was running very fast, but we have beeen faster.").

And now what to do? Delete all hardcore photos here?

We have a better solution: Please switch your hardcore photos to private. Private photos can only be viewed by other Streetfiles members you call friends. This way you can precisely control who will see your photos. We will also do so with your photos. That's right: We, the Streetfiles admins will set your photos to private if we think they are to hardcore for public viewing. We might write you a message claiming that.

Not sure what a hardcore photo is? Hardcore photos are:

  • night shots that can associated to the place the action took place,
  • anything showing people relared to some kind of illegal action.

So Streetfiles is for pussies not for hardcore bombers?

Definitly yes (We really hope to see more female members soon)! Beside that our aim is to present all kinds of streetart, graffiti and art in public space. Our main focus is on aesthetics. We also want to show the beauty of this culture to everyone.

We really hope you understand this. Thanks for taking care and reading. Happy Streetfiles surfin …

well, it is always a subjective individual decision (it wasn't me :-))
live action photos are in most cases "to hardcore". in your case nobody can see your face, but the clothes could refer to you.
anyway, its up to you! it is just a hint.

Speaking as a female member, who has observed many other (assumed) female members of this site's excellent postings, I must say I appreciate the concern for our privacy and safety.

Now I understand and welcome this level of support for myself and other enthusiastic uploaders of night shots.
All points taken on board.
