The Streetfiles Manifesto
Graffiti, Street Art and other maybe unauthorized art is not for everyone. Some people really hate it, we love it. This website is dedicated to collect and archive photos from all over the world and show this movements power.
We and the visitors grade photos by style, an aesthetic level that might not be understood by outsiders. Style measures the conceptual quality of the work, technical perfection, photo arrangement, design and innovation. We don't differ between legal and illegal works. Of course we don't want to animate anyone to vandalize or destroy private or public property.
Our members upload their own photos, these photos usually show works in public space which are visible to everyone. This means there is no general connection between the member and author of the work.
What Streetfiles is About
Streetfiles.org is an independent Street Art & Graffiti photo community. It was launched on the 20th of July 2008 and is the successor of graffitinet.com. The website is internationally laid-out and therefore in English. Its aim is to document the movement of street art, graffiti and art in public space with the help of its users.
How Streetfiles works
A very unique tool is that pictures are being graded by how popular and up-to-date they are. This creates a mixture of editorial supervision and user-performance. In this way not only the dimension of this global urban movement is shown, but also its quality. The photos get commented and evaluated by Streetfiles members. The lively exchange and a unique rating system (interesting and new photos are featured) is addictive. Streetfiles is free of charge without any restrictions. On the 08th of may 2009 the 100.000th photo was uploaded.
